Land Claims and Towns on MiningMaven SMP

How to protect your base on MiningMaven SMP: claiming chunks, how many claims each rank gets, trusting friends, banning griefers, and how towns and the weekly Town Top race work.

By the MiningMaven SMP team ยท Updated

On MiningMaven SMP your land is protected by chunk claims. Claim the chunks you build in and nobody else can break, place, open your chests or hurt your villagers there. This guide covers claiming, how many claims you get, sharing your land with friends, and towns.

How to claim land

  1. Find open land at least 200 blocks from spawn. Claims are not allowed closer than that. /rtp is the quickest way to get there.
  2. Stand in the chunk you want and type /claim.
  3. Chat asks you to confirm. Type /claim again within 15 seconds and the chunk is yours. (The confirm step stops accidental claims.)
  4. Type /claims borders to see glowing walls around claimed chunks near you.

A claim is one whole chunk (16 by 16 blocks) from the bottom of the world to the top. Claims work in the main overworld only. You can also claim a whole area without walking it: type /claims and open the Claim Map. It shows the chunks around you (north is up): green is yours, red belongs to someone else, white is free. Click a white chunk to claim it, or one of your green chunks to give it back.

To give a chunk back, stand in it and type /unclaim. /claims list shows every chunk you own.

How many claims you get

Every rank has a starting number of claims and earns one more claim for every few hours you play. There is no upper limit on the extra claims you earn this way.

  • No rank (Discord not linked yet): 5 claims, no extra claims from playtime.
  • Sprout (free, link your Discord): 40 claims, +1 every 10 hours played.
  • Forager: 60 claims, +1 every 8 hours.
  • Builder: 80 claims, +1 every 7 hours.
  • Explorer: 105 claims, +1 every 6 hours.
  • Champion: 125 claims, +1 every 4 hours.
  • Legend: 150 claims, +1 every 2 hours.

Linking your Discord with /discord link is the biggest jump: it takes you from 5 claims to 40 and starts your playtime bonus. Ranks after Sprout are bought in game with Tokens, which you can earn by playing (see /rank).

What a claim protects

  • Blocks: nobody else can break or place blocks, or use buckets.
  • Chests and storage: nobody else can open chests, barrels, furnaces and other containers.
  • Doors, buttons, levers, anvils, beds and other blocks you use.
  • Item frames, armor stands, minecarts and boats.
  • Villagers: other players cannot hurt or kill your villagers.
  • Explosions: creepers and TNT do not break blocks in claims, and mobs like endermen cannot pick up blocks there.
  • Fire: lighting fires is blocked on the whole server unless the claim owner turns on Allow Fire (see below). Fire never spreads.
  • Edges: water, lava, pistons and dispensers outside your claim cannot push into it or flood it.
  • PvP: off in your claims unless you turn it on, and it covers both players. If either player is standing in a PvP-off claim, they cannot hurt each other. Explosions cannot hurt players there either.
  • Flying: visitors lose flight inside your claims unless you allow it.

Anything you build outside a claim is NOT protected, so claim every chunk you build in.

Letting friends in: trust and visitor settings

  • /claims trust <player> gives a friend full access to ALL of your claims: building, chests, everything. /claims untrust <player> takes it away.
  • /claims settings opens your visitor settings. These switches decide what everyone else (players you have not trusted) may do on your land: Build & Break, Containers, Doors, Interact, Fly and PvP. They all start OFF, so visitors can only walk through.
  • Auto-Trust Townmates (in the same menu) gives everyone in your town full access, so you do not have to trust each member one by one. It starts OFF.
  • Allow Fire (in the same menu) lets you, and anyone allowed to build on your land, light fires with flint and steel there, for example for a fireplace or a nether portal. It starts OFF.

Keeping someone out: claim bans

/claims ban <player> bans a player from ALL of your claims. They cannot walk or teleport into them, and they lose any trust you gave them there. /claims unban <player> lets them back in. If someone griefs or steals outside your claims, open a support ticket at miningmavensmp.com/support (or type /support in game).

Towns

A town is a group of players with its own name, chat, spawn point and ranking. Towns do not own land: every member keeps their own claims. Turn on Auto-Trust Townmates if you want your town to build together on your land.

  • /t new <name> starts a town and makes you the Mayor. Names are 3 to 16 characters.
  • /t invite <player> invites someone; they join with /t join <town> within 5 minutes.
  • Roles: Mayor, Assistant and Resident. The Mayor and Assistants can invite, kick and set the town spawn. Assistants can only kick Residents.
  • /t promote <player> makes a Resident an Assistant. Promoting an Assistant hands them the Mayor role. /t demote turns an Assistant back into a Resident. Only the Mayor can do this.
  • /t setspawn sets the town spawn where you stand; any member can go there with /t spawn.
  • /tc toggles town chat on and off. /tc <message> sends a single message to your town.
  • /t info, /t list and /t top show a town's details, every town, and this week's Town Top race.
  • /t leave leaves your town. Only the Mayor can /t disband it.

The weekly Town Top race

Every $ sale made in a town member's player shop (/ps) counts for their town. The Town Top board at spawn shows the five towns with the most sales this week. Every Sunday at 11:55 pm Central time, every member of the top 3 towns is paid, and then the race starts again from zero:

  • 1st place: $50,000, 1 Enchantments Key and 100 Tokens for each member.
  • 2nd place: $25,000, 1 Supreme Key and 50 Tokens for each member.
  • 3rd place: $10,000 and 25 Tokens for each member.

Tips

  • Claim your first chunk before you place a single chest.
  • Link your Discord on day one: 40 claims instead of 5.
  • Trust carefully. A trusted player can open every chest on all of your claims.
  • Your claims show on the live map at miningmavensmp.com/map, each owner in their own colour.
