What Is a KOTH Event in Minecraft?
KOTH means King of the Hill. Here is how KOTH events work on a Minecraft server, how to win one, and why they are worth showing up for.
KOTH stands for "King of the Hill." It is a timed PvP-style event on a Minecraft server where players compete to hold a specific area — the hill — for long enough to win the reward.
How a KOTH event works
- The event starts at a set location (the "hill" or capture zone).
- Players rush to stand in the zone.
- A timer counts down while you hold the zone — if you get knocked out or pushed off, the timer pauses or resets to whoever is holding it.
- The first player to hold the zone for the full time wins the loot.
Tips for winning KOTH
- Show up geared — armor, food, and a way to knock others off the point.
- Team up or expect competition; the hill gets crowded.
- Watch the announcements so you know when and where it starts.
- Control the high ground and chokepoints around the zone.
